Ministry Confirms Kenyan Worker in Turkey Safe After Job Dispute

Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has confirmed that a Kenyan worker involved in a wage dispute with her employers in Ankara, Turkey, is safe and receiving assistance.

The confirmation follows the circulation of a video recorded on 4 February showing the woman confronting her employers over unpaid wages. In the footage, the exchange becomes heated, with one man appearing to strike her as she continues to demand payment. A child later enters the room, and two other men attempt to intervene before the parties agree to report the matter to the police.

Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu said the Kenyan Embassy in Ankara acted immediately after being alerted to the incident. She said that the worker has received medical attention, her outstanding wages and arrears have been paid, and she remains under the embassy’s support in accordance with Turkish law.

The Ministry has advised Kenyans living and working abroad to report threats, disputes, or abuse through its 24-hour response centre. Officials also encouraged workers to document incidents and to seek help from Kenyan diplomatic missions when facing difficulties.

The Ministry thanked those who brought the matter to public attention and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of Kenyans in the diaspora.
