Man Arrested After Allegedly Attempting to Enter State House Through Gate D

A man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly attempting to enter State House in Nairobi through Gate D without authorisation.

According to preliminary reports from security officers, the man was driving a tuk-tuk when officers at the entrance noticed his actions and moved to stop him. He was allegedly trying to access a restricted section of the State House compound.

Officers instructed the driver to stop, but he allegedly ignored the orders and continued towards barriers near the gate. GSU officers intervened and arrested him before he could enter the secured area.

During initial questioning, the suspect reportedly told investigators that he wanted to meet President William Ruto. Police said he had no official clearance or scheduled appointment allowing him to enter the State House grounds or seek an audience with the President.

The man remained in police custody as detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident. Security was also increased around the area as officers assessed what had happened and examined the events leading to the arrest.

It was not immediately established whether President Ruto was at State House when the incident occurred. However, the attempted unauthorised entry is being treated seriously because of the security requirements surrounding the official residence and workplace of the Head of State.

The incident comes days after State House issued a public notice distancing itself from a man accused of falsely claiming to represent President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto. The institution said the individual had no authority to conduct business, receive funds, make commitments or enter agreements on behalf of the First Family.

The latest incident also recalls a security breach at the same State House entrance nearly a year ago. In that incident, a GSU officer was allegedly attacked by a man armed with a bow and arrow. The officer sustained injuries that later proved fatal, prompting wider scrutiny of security arrangements around key government installations.
