Kindiki Says Government Projects Will Benefit All Constituencies Regardless of Political Loyalties

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has pledged that government development projects will continue across Kenya regardless of the political affiliations of elected leaders or voters.

Speaking in Mukurweini, Nyeri County, during an inspection of the Gakindu Economic Stimulus Programme market, Kindiki said access to public investment should not depend on whether a constituency supports or opposes President William Ruto’s administration. He said the Kenya Kwanza government was committed to delivering development projects in all parts of the country, including areas represented by opposition leaders.

He maintained that public services and economic opportunities were available to all Kenyans, regardless of their political choices. Kindiki rejected claims that regions supporting the government receive preferential treatment in the allocation of development projects. He said development was a government responsibility and should not be used to reward political supporters or disadvantage critics of the administration.

The Deputy President also defended the government’s record, saying it remained committed to fulfilling the promises made in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto. He cited investments in infrastructure, housing, electricity, markets and other public services as evidence of progress towards its development goals.

He urged opposition leaders to support initiatives intended to improve livelihoods

and expand economic opportunities, warning against discouraging residents from benefiting from government projects because of political differences. During his visit to Nyeri, Kindiki said construction of the Gakindu market was about 20 per cent complete. He directed the relevant agencies to ensure the project was completed by the end of December.

He also announced plans to appoint a new contractor for the delayed Mukurweini Central modern market project to speed up construction. The two projects are part of a national programme to develop modern markets for small-scale traders and agricultural producers. Kindiki said hundreds of markets were being constructed across the country, with Nyeri among the counties benefiting from the initiative.

Beyond market infrastructure, the Deputy President highlighted investments in housing, student accommodation and other development programmes in the county. He said billions of shillings had been committed to these projects, while additional initiatives were at various stages of procurement.

Kindiki also pointed to rural electrification projects in Mukurweini under the Last Mile Connectivity programme, which aims to extend electricity access to more households. On agriculture, he said government fertiliser subsidies had reduced the cost of farm inputs and indicated that farmers would benefit from a further price reduction later in the year. He also highlighted investments in the dairy sector, including the distribution of milk coolers to improve storage and help farmers reduce post-harvest losses.

The Deputy President called on political leaders to exercise restraint and avoid statements that could encourage violence or the destruction of property. He said political competition should not interfere with public order or economic activity, arguing that leaders could campaign against their rivals without putting communities and businesses at risk.

Kindiki further urged communities and political leaders to work together to address illicit alcohol consumption and drug abuse, describing them as challenges that required a collective response beyond political divisions.
