President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto traveled to Mwanza, Tanzania, on Thursday evening to attend the lakeside wedding of their daughter, Charlene Ruto, to Tanzanian technology entrepreneur Isaya Yunge.

The outdoor garden ceremony, held on Friday along the shores of Lake Victoria, brought together political figures, family members, and business leaders from both Kenya and Tanzania. Among those accompanying the President was Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, who was seen walking with Ruto and his son, Nick Ruto, outside a modern multi-storey complex in Mwanza ahead of the event.

The ceremony marked the final stage of cross-border celebrations between the two families. The festivities began on August 8, 2026, with a traditional Kalenjin engagement ceremony, known as a Koito, held at President Ruto's private farm in Kilgoris, Narok County. That event involved formal marriage negotiations, cultural performances, and traditional bridewealth arrangements attended by family elders, government officials, and guests who arrived by helicopter.

Prior to Friday's main ceremony in Tanzania, Charlene hosted a private white-and-purple-themed bridal shower on Tuesday, November 3. Guests, including her sister Stephanie, wore pink outfits to the gathering. Charlene also attended a family prayer session where her mother, aunts, and close friends gathered to offer blessings for the marriage.

During the Friday ceremony, Charlene walked down a long mirrored aisle flanked by rows of white flowers and cross-back seating for guests. Her parents escorted her to an altar anchored by a white arch of cascading roses.

The bride wore a full ball-gown wedding dress featuring three-dimensional floral detailing across the bodice, long sleeves, a high illusion neckline, and a cathedral-length sheer veil with matching floral accents.

The President and First Lady coordinated their attire in deep burgundy accents. President Ruto wore a burgundy jacket with dark trousers, a white shirt, a black bow tie, a beige fedora hat, and carried a decorative walking stick. Rachel Ruto wore a long white lace dress decorated with burgundy and brown floral patterns, paired with a wide-brimmed dusty rose hat and a cream handbag.
