The funeral arrangements for Boaz Ogeto, a Kenyan man who died in Alabama, USA, have been thrown into disarray following the unexpected repatriation of his body to Kenya without informing his wife or the fundraising committee responsible for managing the burial costs.
Ogeto passed away, prompting his friend Sammy Ondimu to initiate an online fundraising campaign to cover the expenses associated with transporting his remains and conducting the funeral. The group successfully raised Sh 1.5 million through TikTok, which they planned to use for arrangements expected to culminate with the body’s arrival on February 2, 2025. However, they were blindsided to discover that Ogeto’s remains had been secretly flown to Kenya on January 29, 2025.
“We were so shocked. We had planned to go pick the body on February 2, only to learn that it had been secretly transported into the country. The body seemed to have been brought like luggage despite our fundraising efforts,” Ondimu remarked in an interview.
Further investigation by Ondimu and a friend based in Alabama reveals that Ogeto's sister had allegedly conspired with two unidentified individuals to transport the body without notifying his widow or the fundraising group. This revelation raises questions, as Ogeto and his sister reportedly had a contentious relationship. Upon arrival, the body was received by Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home.
It was only two days later that Ogeto’s wife learned of the situation, through an uncle. There are indications that Ogeto’s mother might also have been unaware of the clandestine transport, complicating the motivations behind these actions. Additionally, allegations surfaced suggesting that Ogeto's sister paid individuals to disseminate false claims against his wife on social media, accusing her of infidelity and neglect during his illness. Notably, while Ogeto battled a serious illness starting in October, his wife was not informed of his worsening condition until December, when he was already critical and reliant on oxygen support.
"Ogeto became critically ill in October, but his wife was only informed in December. Their last conversation was on December 24, as he started losing his memory," a source reveals.
The challenges faced by Ogeto's widow have galvanized public support, as many Kenyans contributed to the fundraiser with the aim of shielding her and their young son from vulnerability. Following the death of her husband, she found herself in a precarious position, denied access to both his property and home. Ondimu has pledged his commitment to supporting Ogeto’s wife and child, emphasizing the need for assistance in light of the injustices they face.
"He told me to look out for his wife and son to ensure they don’t suffer. I will do everything I can to help. I condemn these attacks that follow a death, where a widow is deprived of everything. I will support her in any way to prevent further harm," Ondimu stated.

Ogeto's sister was the one taking care of her brother during his illness. Clearly the wife was estranged from him. Wacheni ufala.
