IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati Fires His Personal Assistant

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati has fired his personal assistant Gekara Muoni.

Muoni was reportedly dismissed over recent leaking of confidential documents from Chebukati's office and the electoral commission.

In the past two weeks, documents including an internal memo in which Chebukati sought crucial answers from IEBC Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba on the bungled August 8th general election.

This was after Supreme Court ruled that it found irregularities and anomalies in the August polls, declaring the election invalid, null and void.

Earlier this week, another document addressed to Chiloba and in which Chebukati sought to have three ICT officials including IEBC ICT director James Muhati dismissed for failing to assist the commission in conducting the repeat presidential election also leaked to the public.

The Star said that Muoni also sought to have his mother nominated as a ward representative in Nyamira county, in violation of his contract.
