Raila Gets a Grand Reception after Landing at Kisumu International Airport

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga received a grand reception in Kisumu on Friday night after landing at Kisumu International Airport.

This is the first time the opposition leader visited his backyard since his return from a 10-day trip to the United States two weeks ago.

The aircraft carrying Odinga touched the ground at the Kisumu International Airport at around 6:30 pm and was welcomed by Kisumu governor Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o and other local leaders.

A group of traditional dancers using nyatiti entertained him shortly after alighting from the plane, a huge crowd gathered his entourage after learning his presence. They shouted "Baba! Baba! Hero! Hero as he waved at them.

Raila was flanked by Kisumu West Member of Parliament Olago Aluoch and NASA Presidential campaign team led by Bob Madanje and later proceeded to his Opoda home in Bondo, Siaya county.

This comes even as Nasa unveiled a seven-member steering committee to run operations of the coalition's people's assembly. The team will be headed by Nasa chief economic strategist David Ndii.

Other members of the committee include, former nominated Senator Judy Sijeny, Oduor Ong'wen, Dr Mutahi Kangu, Peter Mathuki, Hamida Kibwana and Koitamet Olekina.

“The work of the organising committee will be to guide, facilitate and coordinate the programme of various assemblies across the country,” said former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, who read the statement on behalf of the NASA leadership at Okoa Kenya office in Nairobi.

“It will further set up a national secretariat that will be the centre for the activities of these assemblies, among other duties.”
