KDF Officers Kill Five Al Shabaab Militants Behind Saturday Attack in Garissa

Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officers have killed five Al Shabaab militants suspected to be among a group of terrorists who attacked and set ablaze Ijara police post and an AP camp in Garissa on Saturday morning.
In a statement to the press, KDF spokesman colonel David Obonyo said the five were killed while attempting to cross the border into Somalia on Sunday evening.
He further noted that explosives making materials that were being transported in the stolen police land cruiser belonging to the Ijara police station exploded and destroyed the vehicle during an exchange with the militants.
“The troops caught up with the terrorists as they tried to get to the Somali border. In the ensuing firefight, suspected bomb making materials that were being ferried in the stolen Land Cruiser exploded destroying the vehicle,” said Obonyo.
A motorcycle , 5AK rifles , 13 magazines with 370 rounds of ammunition , 2 grenades, bomb making materials, and personal items were recovered. Some militants fled with bullet injuries.
“KDF is still in pursuit of the militants and appeals to the public for any information regarding suspicious people with bullet wounds seeking assistance,” added Obonyo.
