Nyeri County Dismisses Reports that Governor Mutahi Kahiga is Admitted with Cancer at a US Hospital

Nyeri County Director of Communication Carol Nderi has dismissed reports doing rounds on the social media that Governor Mutahi Kahiga is admitted at a United States hospital with prostrate cancer.

Nderi said Governor Kahiga is in good health and is in the US to meet investors and not for treatment as alleged. "Our attention has been drawn to a false post circulating on social media, emanating from a Facebook account that has previously spun outright lies and is seemingly at it again," Nderi said.

"We assure the people of Nyeri that Kahiga is well and in the USA with a section of senior officials to meet investors."

The official further said Kahiga and his delegation went for an exchange programme with Reston City and will jet back to the country next week.

"We would like to caution those peddling lies, and those behind pseudo accounts, that it is criminal to do so and that punitive measures can be taken against them for causing undue anxiety."

The rumors claimed that the Governor had traveled to the US for medication after fainting several times in his office and newly appointed Deputy Governor Caroline Karugu, had taken charge of the county.

Kahiga assumed office after the late Governor Wahome Gakuru's death following an accident along Thika-Murang'a highway in November, last year.
