Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's Personal Assistant Charged with Robbery with Violence

A person assistant to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been charged with robbery with violence at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.

Peterson Kimenyi was charged in a case where former Nairobi Central Business District Association Chairman Timothy Muriuki was assaulted and robbed by goons at Boulevard Hotel in April.

Kimenyi, alongside other suspects are accused of stealing Sh100,000 from Timothy Muriuki by use of force at the hotel. The attack happened as Muriuki prepared to address the press.

Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko, Kimenyi denied the charges and was freed on a cash bail of Sh200,000 or an alternative of a bond of Sh500,000. The matter will be heard on September 30th.

Governor Sonko has distanced himself from goons who assaulted the businessman, who was set to address journalists on the state of Nairobi County. Sonko said he had no links with the five men captured on camera beating up Muriuki.

“Hearsay is not admissible in court and I will not allow anyone to tarnish my good name. Mr Muriuki is my friend and have never had any differences with him,” Sonko told a local TV station in April.

The chickens are home to roost. Violence against anybody is inadmissible. Let these guys drink from their self made bitter concoction. They have no one to blame. But this has to stop. Kenya is not a jungle. The law is there to protect everyone and no one is above the law.
