Slain Dutch Billionaire to be Buried at Jewish Cemetery in Nairobi as Feuding Parties Agree on Funeral

Slain Dutch businessman Tob Cohen is set to be laid to rest on Monday in Nairobi after feuding parties agreed on his funeral.

On Thursday, attorneys representing Cohen’s estranged wife Sarah Wairimu and his sister Gabrielle Van Straten said the two agreed the deceased will be buried at a Jewish cemetery in the city.

“The burial ceremony will be private and for family members only. Sarah and Gabrielle will participate as widow and sister respectively,” the statement from lawyers Philip Murgor and Cliff Ombeta stated.

On Wednesday, Wairimu had opposed the release of the tycoon’s body to his sister Gabrielle for burial, arguing that she remains the lawfully married wife of Cohen thus she is the only one with the rights to bury him.

Wairimu, who is the prime suspect in the murder of the 71-year-old billionaire, is currently remanded at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison.

Cohen’s body was found inside an underground water tank at his palatial home in Nairobi’s Kitisuru estate last Friday, close to two months after he went missing on July 19th.

Cohen, a tour and travel business magnate, lived in Kenya since 1987.
