The government, through the Health Ministry, has reacted to reports claiming that at least 17 MPs have tested positive for the coronavirus disease.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said the ministry was yet to receive any official communication from parliament about the matter.
“As it stands today and at this time, we have no official reporting of these cases to the Ministry of Health,” said Dr. Mwangangi during a media briefing on Wednesday.
She added: “The Ministry is aware, and we did see the headlines reporting that there are positive cases of coronavirus in Parliament, what we have to say on this matter is that as it stands today and at this time, we have no official reporting of these cases to the Ministry of Health.”
Dr. Mwangangi addressed the matter hours after Gatundu MP Moses Kuria, through Facebook, asked the Ministry of Health to publish names of the MPs alleged to have been diagnosed with Covid-19.
Lancet Kenya, a private laboratory commissioned by Parliament to conduct Covid-19 tests on MPs, on Wednesday dismissed the reports as false.
“Our attention has been drawn to the information circulating in the media about the recent testing for COVID-19 at Parliament grounds… The purported information circulating in the media about COVID-19 confirmed cases at Parliament is incorrect, misleading and should be disregarded,” the laboratory said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Any person who turns positive for COVID-19 is informed individually by the doctors. In addition, the Ministry of Health is the only authority mandated to release COVID-19 positive results to the public.”

The positives need to be identified right away before they are out there spreading it to everyone. The government should have forcefully quarantined them right away. Also all other MPs in parliament need quarantine by force. They will not do it willingly ... we know.
They are lying. Today they said they are doing mass testing on MPigs and their staff.
Any MP or senator who will not attend parliament sessions, know they tested positive. Caution; if you ever came into contact with that politician get tested for the virus and isolate yourself from immediate family and the public.
