Western Kenya MCAs Demand Sh500,000 Each to Pass BBI Bill

Western Kenya MCAs Demand Sh500,000 Each to Pass BBI Bill

300 MCAs drawn from four Western Kenya counties have demanded Sh500,000 each to pass the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional Amendment Bill.

The Ward Representatives from Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Busia counties threatened to shoot down the Bill in their respective county assemblies if their demands are not met.

They say the money, which is on top of the Sh2 million car grant recently awarded to all MCAs, will facilitate public participation and help them in popularizing the initiative.

“We don’t have money to conduct public participation, and you cannot just go to the people empty-handed,” said MCA Tom Adingo from Vihiga County.

The MCAs argued that the Sh300,000 facilitation fee promised to them is not enough and want the amount increased to at least half a million.

They spoke during a meeting attended by Western Kenya leaders led by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, governors Wilbur Ottichilo (Vihiga), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia), Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungoma), and Senator Moses Wetang’ula.

“The issue we now have is not BBI. It is the Referendum Bill. BBI was a process, which is now over. The task force was dissolved. We need to be talking to the public about the Constitution Amendment Bill and Consequential Bills. The details are what Kenyans want,” Mudavadi said during the meeting.

So far, four county assemblies, including Siaya, Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Kisii have adopted the BBI Bill, which requires the support of at least 24 counties before it is forwarded to the National Assembly.

At this point nothing shocks anyone. Just give them the money and any other thing they want- madness has no cure. When the president of a country now campaigns against a child from Turkana/Wajir and others getting "too much money" for bursary then you know the devil has a face. When you lie to university students you will "postpone" HELB payments you know we have fools. Just change funding to schools/universities so our children do no beg for bursaries. Send/give more money for schools with more kids- No BBI needed for that. I never thought I would live to witness a president complain that our dear students from ASAL are now so well off they are our new "enemies" . Something is so wrong with our leadership. Education is one sector where funding can be so targeted since every child is known- I guess uhuru has no clue and his "prof minister" does not know too. Poleni Wakenya wenzangu- God will hear our prayers.

It is no longer a secret; Kenya is for sale to the highest bidder. Those who doubted that Kenya is unashamedly corrupt, the MAC's pay off demand is your answer. In the same token, every Kenyan adult of voting age should name their price and demand to be paid by the government before touching the rotten BBI.

This is the problem that results from a bloated government. 47 counties= 47x thieves.

  5. MwangiFeb 15, 2021

I support the MCAs 100%. I then suggest all Kenyans of voting age demand 200K before they support BBI. Who is with me here?

Wapewe! Kwani!! Hata 10 Million per MCA! Let’s go BIG or go home! Si, BBI is of utmost urgency and a ‘priority’ to Kenyans!! Now the idiots have hiked fuel prices at the time when the economy is on its knees! # we need a revolution or relocation! Tumechoka kuvumilia kuwa wakenya! Are we bewitched, gullible or just extremely foolish? perhaps all the above! How could we let a few politicians dictate our quality of lives? When are we gonna rise up as a team and fight for our rights? School fees have not been paid, civil servants / healthcare professionals’ salaries have not been paid, we are behind paying rent, can’t afford agricultural inputs/capital, no quality foods on our tables! Halafu they are shoving BBI on our tailbones?

They should demand ksh 2 Million.

Kenyans need to be paid ksh 2 Million each per year to follow the new constitution being proposed by BBI.

Siaya and Homabay should have asked to be paid too. What a bunch of idiots

This shows how much politicians in Kenya values the common mwanainchi.
Greed and corruption are the orders of the day.
    REVOLUTION will be key.
    Kenyans enough is enough.
Let's get sick and tired of getting sick and tired of this politicians.

I have come to realize that Kenyan politicians just want a ticket to big salaries, allowances and a way of forgetting the voters who got them the jobs. If they are really working for the voters who they are representing, why demand for half a million when there are hundreds of thousands without basic needs? Clearly these individuals are sick and care only about their resumes and posh Noise proof residences where they will be locked in with their dear families. This cycle is ending , their generations are watching and will continue the same cycle of lies, corruption and begging for status from Kenyans and finally forgetting they were voted in. I don't know why we have these people thinking the same way. They have been holding meetings or forming WhatsApp groups to defraud Kenyans. We need civil rights activists to educate the voters to understand what they should vote for. Without bribery of 1 kg of unga or maize. Long lasting results which worth 100+ yrs from today is what should be driving voters demanding change. Wipe these malfunctioning leaders from the offices and strip them of the titles,

I hope the courts can provide leadership on this BBI issue and just declare it unconstitutional. Seriously. This BBI needs to be consigned to the history books.

  13. MaxileyFeb 15, 2021

@ Kim, you are right. As much as people vilify Ruto.Iam with him being against BBI.Its a play book for highway robbery.

This is what happens when the president shows people there is money to give. In the US, they say ain’t shit free. This is Animal Farm. When my kids ask me what happened to Kenya, I’ll tell them it was foreseeable. We let the monkeys run free.

  15. BuilderFeb 16, 2021

This snake called BBI will suck life out of a poverty stricken nation. This voter bribery should be declared criminal and culprits beginning with uhuraila put away for good. It's sickening.
