Martha Karua Wants Gov't to Provide Free COVID-19 Testing and Treatment

Nark-Kenya party leader Martha Karua wants COVID-19 testing and treatment to be offered for free in all public hospitals.

Addressing reporters on Monday, Karua said the effects of the pandemic have left many Kenyans in financial distress and cannot afford the high costs of treating the disease.

“The government must immediately take up the cost of testing and treatment of COVID-19 patients in all public hospitals, and avail the vaccines in all public hospitals countrywide,” Karua said.

Karua noted that President Kenyatta’s decision to lock down five counties of Nairobi, Nakuru, Kajiado, Kiambu, and Machakos will have devastating effects on the country’s economy and the lives of Kenyans, adding that the solution to the current crisis is to invest heavily in the health sector and buy vaccines in bulk.

“Cessation of movement in 5 counties is in effect a lockdown of the whole country for they are a gateway to the country,” said Karua on Monday.

“It’s a case of missed opportunities and misguided efforts, by now we should be having testing capacities in all 47 counties, capacity to respond to the critically ill and we should have the benefit of improved health services countrywide,” she added.

Karua indicated that millions of Kenyans are likely to lose their jobs as a result of the lockdown rules and urged the government to put in place measures to cushion them.

At the same time, she questioned why those accused of looting funds set aside for the COVID-19 fight are yet to be brought to book even after the President gave investigating agencies 21 days to conclude a probe into the scandal.

“We are reminding you for the umpteenth time, 21 days are over, we have another COVID wave and your government has not caused the arrest and prosecution of the culprits, we must continue demanding,” Karua told Uhuru.

I support Martha’s assertions 100%. Uhuru has not arrested those looters because his slimy hands are in a lot of scandalous activities. If Uhuru dares run for public office in 2022, I hope there will be a revolution. Sadly, it’s the ones at the bottom that suffer.

The government should demand that NHIF and insurance providers pay for COVID treatment. Right now any and all COVID related expenses are being denied by insurance under the explanation that they do not provide coverage for pandemic related illnesses.
Because of this a lot of people who are sick are not seeking treatment nor getting tested because they do not want to incur a medical bill. People who are sick are infecting others out there instead of being in isolation and getting the medicine they need.
Uhuru's lockdown won't stem this surge if people are not getting tested or treated.

The government cannot afford to pay for the health care of its citizens because it is trying to get 14b for the bbi and referendum for the dynasties

“Madam president”? What are you smoking @motofire? Kenya will go to the dogs if Karua and Ruto were to be elected president! She could even handle a great ministerial portfolio as a constitution minister! She is all talk and no actions!

The government is not your mother to feed you or be paying fir everything for you! Y’all stop bearing kids like it was in 1999 where nobody cares! There are too many mouths to feed in Kenya and y’all don’t even want to work. You @notifier don’t even have a job and you are talking! Aishhhh!

Surely I hear with both my ears! Kenyans have literally become very lazy and always blaming others for their bad actions. And for Martha, this list dude calling her madam president is seriously confused! Karua is a forgone story of tester years and she got nothing good for kenya! I agree with you about the huge population explosion! Family planning need to be practiced by every body; &motofire included!!

@ mwau I'm calling her madam pres out of honor more than her chance of becoming one. She stands near zero chance. As on population most Kenyans are down to 2 kids now due to cost of living and quality life. My kin tried to sell a 4 bed house but every buyer said it was too big for a 2 kids fam. I'm done having kids bc I want quality life having come from a huge family and made my own toys. Kenya is a rich country that can take care of its people but corruption alone rips off trillions of dollars.

So why are people expecting the country to pay for everything for them if Kent’s is such a rich country? That means people are also rich and they can afford to be their way thru life!

Karua is not madam president! You have to be in that position to be referred as such! These title you affix on folks make them start acting arrogant! And Karua is one those folks you don’t glorify because she will capitalize on it!

It's a free country we can call her madam president if we wish to or any other name that you like. She can capitalize if she wants to. Kwa hiyari yake.tumechoka kuambiwa what we should or shouldn't do.
