Raila Extends Support to Family of Ailing Rugby Legend Benjamin Ayimba

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Sunday paid a visit to the family of ailing rugby legend Benjamin Ayimba.
Odinga met the family to extend his support, a day after President Kenyatta donated Sh1 million towards Ayimba’s medical bill that stood at Sh2.3 million.
“I met the family of Kenyan rugby legend Benjamin Ayimba, who is currently hospitalised, to offer prayers, encouragement, and extend support to them. You are in our prayers, Benjamin Ayimba,” Raila wrote on Twitter.
Last week, the family through the Kenya Rugby Union appealed for financial aid to offset the huge hospital bill.
Ayimba, 45, is battling cerebral malaria and has been in and out of the hospital since last year when he was diagnosed with the disease.
The family was required to clear the bill at a private hospital before he is moved to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialized treatment.
“All this while we have tried to maintain his privacy and dignity but it has reached a point where we can’t keep quiet anymore,” his eldest son Brian told The Standard.
“The family had thought it was not going to be this serious. So, we didn’t want to cause alarm but where we have reached now, we call upon the rest of the country to come to our help.”
