Skillful Burglar Nicknamed 'Spiderman 3' Arrested over Robbery Incidents in Posh Nairobi Estates

Police in Nairobi have arrested a suspected burglar nicknamed ‘Spiderman 3’, who has been terrorizing residents of Kilimani and Kileleshwa estates.

Kennedy Otieno Oyier was nabbed on Sunday night following numerous complaints by residents of the two posh estates.

Oyier, who has been stealing electronics, money, jewelry, and other valuables, was nicknamed ‘Spiderman’ due to his ability to scale walls of apartments.

Police said Oyier is a brother to another suspected burglar named John Otieno Oyier, alias ‘Spiderman 2’, who was arrested and charged in court early this year over a similar style of burglary.

After his arrest, John led detectives to his house in Nairobi’s Kawangware estate where several laptops were recovered. He is currently being held at Industrial Area Remand Prison.

Kennedy is said to have changed his residence after his brother was arrested. He told detectives that he and his brother learned skills of scaling walls from a movie they watched online.

Kennedy was booked at Kilimani Police Station pending arraignment on Monday to face burglary-related charges.

Nairobi police commander Augustine Nthumbi said investigations are underway to establish whether the suspect is linked to other robbery incidents reported elsewhere, including Parklands, Lavington, Muthangari, and Westlands.

In 2019, detectives arrested another suspected burglar identified as Michael Joseph Otieno Odhiambo, alias ‘Spiderman 1’, who was caught on CCTV scaling walls in Kilimani apartments.

Detectives pounced on him at Greenhouse Building and found him with several laptops, pliers, a cutter, a hacksaw, and a ransack bag.
