KDF Soldier Shot Dead by Armed Robbers in Utawala, Nairobi

A 33-year-old Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officer was on Tuesday night shot dead by armed robbers in Nairobi’s Utawala estate.

Senior private Joseph Mwangi Thitu was headed home when a three-man gang on a motorcycle approached him and ordered him to surrender his backpack but he resisted, prompting the thugs to use force.

“He resisted prompting one of the thugs to shoot at him where he fell on the ground. The thugs then made away with the bag and boarded their motorcycle and sped off towards Mawe Mbili direction,” reads a police report.

Security guards manning a nearby supermarket rushed Mwangi to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“A close assessment of the body showed that he was shot from the lower back where the bullet exited at the lower loin,” the report adds.

The deceased’s mobile phone, identification documents, and Sh37,300 were found in his pockets. No spent cartridge was recovered from the scene of the crime.

His body was moved to City Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination as investigations into his shooting and hunt for the suspects continue.
