Koome was nominated by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Tuesday following the conclusion of interviews last Friday.

She was among the 10 Chief Justice candidates who were interviewed by JSC between April 12th and 23rd.

Koome, who currently serves as a judge of the Appellate Court, will be vetted by the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

On Wednesday, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi urged the committee to speed up the process on the appeal of President Kenyatta.

“The committee is requested to consider the nomination on a priority basis,” Muturi said.

Should MPs approve her nomination, President Kenyatta will appoint her as the 15th Chief Justice within three days of receiving the notification from the National Assembly.

If the nomination is rejected, the President will be required to submit the name of a new nominee to the National Assembly.

Koome, 61, has 33 years of experience in legal practice and could become the first-ever female Chief Justice in Kenya.

I support Martha for the position of CJ of the Republic of Kenya! I do so after reading the derogatory remarks written by Nelson Havi indicating that Judge Koome was corrupt and unqualified to be the next CJ!

Every Kenyan should be offended by havi’s goat smelling attitude toward women in general! Havi should resign his position and take his boyish mentality to his rural home.

Havi need to understand that childish games will not keep judge koome from being the CJ! Havi also need to grow up and mature from a little street boy to a real man! He is attacking koome because he is not used to seeing women in powerful positions in Kenya! The man is corrupt and stupid!

Havi, women are part and parcel of Kenya! Martha is widely educated, deeply experienced and she has a sheet wrap of diverse experiences!

Stop showing your immaturity by singling the gender parity in Kenya! You ain’t seen it yet! Get used to women being in charge of powerful positions! We must all fight the backward shamba mentality display by the Havi’s of this world to our well versed women!
