President Uhuru Makes Minor Cabinet Reshuffle

President Kenyatta has made a minor Cabinet reshuffle affecting a number of ministries and departments.

In the changes announced on Wednesday by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena, Amb. Monica Juma was moved to the Ministry of Energy from the Defense Ministry.

The Ministry of Defense will now be headed by Eugene Wamalwa, who leaves the Devolution docket while Charles Keter, who previously headed the Energy Ministry, has been named the new Devolution Cabinet Secretary.

Prof. Margaret Kobia will head the newly reconstituted Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs, and Special Programmes.

Kenyatta also re-assigned some Principal Secretaries, moving Maj. Gen. Rtd Gordon Kihalangwa to the State Department for Energy from Public Works.

Dr. Eng. Joseph Njoroge was transferred to the State Department for Transport from Energy while Solomon Kitungu moves to the State Department for Public Works from Transport.

PS Nelson Marwa heads to the Department of Social Protection, Senior Citizens Affairs & Special Programmes from the State Department for Social Protection.

Further to these, the president made reorganizations and transfers of functions in the structure of government. He moved the State Department for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) to the Ministry of Public Service & Gender, and the State Department for Social Protection, Pensions and Senior Citizens to the Ministry of Public Service & Gender.

The Department of Special Programmes was transferred to the newly renamed State Department for Social Protection, Senior Citizens Affairs, and Special Programmes. 

The Ministry of Devolution & ASALs was reconstituted and renamed the Ministry of Devolution while the Ministry of Public Service & Gender was reconstituted and renamed the Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs & Special Programmes. The Ministry of Labor & Social Protection was reconstituted and renamed the Ministry of Labor.
