Popular Granny Cecilia Wangari Joins UDA Party, to Run for Nairobi Woman Rep Seat

Popular Nairobi granny Cecilia Wangari Mwangi, alias Shosh, has joined politics.

Wangari, who hit local and international media headlines in 2018 over her expertise in fixing car sound systems in Nairobi, joined Deputy President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. 

The 80-year-old was welcomed to the ‘hustler nation’ party by UDA secretary-general Veronica Maina and has declared her interest in the Nairobi Woman Representative seat in next year’s elections.

“Welcomed Cecilia Mwangi (Shosh) 80 the proprietor of Shosh Sound Systems, who made ripples in the international media to UDA. She will contest for Nairobi Women Representative Seat,” Maina said.

The octogenarian has been running Shosh Sound Systems located along Outering Road for more than 20 years. She developed an interest in sound systems in 1991 and was trained by her grandson.

Shosh shot to the limelight in 2018 when she was featured by local and international media inkling Al Jazeera. She only reached grade four in her education.

Wangari will battle it for the UDA ticket with nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, who is also eyeing the Woman Representative seat in the 2022 general elections.
