Armed Robbers Steal Sh2.3 Million from Prime Bank in Nakuru

Police have launched a search for a five-member gang that raided Prime Bank Nakuru branch on Wednesday and made away with Sh2.3 million.

The robbers allegedly forced their way into the bank located at Westside Mall along Kenyatta Avenue at around 4:30 pm.

Armed with a homemade gun, hammer, knives and a panga, the suspects took hostage the nine employees on duty before directing them into the toilets and locked them inside.

They then began ransacking the cash drawers and stole at least Sh2.3 million, according to a report filed at Central police station by the bank's branch manager Suraj Rawal.

"CCTV footage showed that a KK security guard on duty, Tobias Juma, opened the main door of the bank for the robbers. After entering the banking hall, they then commandeered the members of staff to the toilets and locked them inside before they ransacked the drawers and stole Sh2.3 million," reads the police report.

A teller named Meshack Tanui suffered injuries after being hit with a hammer and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Police visited the scene and recovered a homemade gun, hammer, mobile phone and a Sh1,000 note.
