Man Arrested Sitting a KCSE Exam for His 44-year-old Father

Police in Busia have arrested a man for allegedly sitting a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam for his father.

The 26-year-old suspect was arrested after the Center Manager at Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School in Busia informed police officers that there was a man impersonating a candidate and writing his English Paper 1 exam.

On receiving the report, the County security team led by the deputy county commander and sub-county police commander rushed to the center and found the suspect identified as George Barasa Makokha, according to a police report of the incident. Upon interrogation, Barasa said he was sent by his 44-year-old father to sit his examination.

"...upon interrogation, he disclosed that he had been sent by a candidate of Index Number 35960101026 registered for Busia Sub County Private namely Josephat Basoga Makokha and who is the suspect's father," reads the police report.

His father was registered as a private candidate at Our Lady of Mercy within Busia township.

Barasa will be charged with the offense of intent to impersonate not being the registered candidate in contravention of section 30(c) of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Act.

Earlier, a 20-year-old university student was arrested in Kisii for masquerading as a KCSE candidate. The Kisii University student was arrested sitting the English Paper 1 exam for a private student at Kiamabundu Mixed Secondary School in Kisii.

His arrest came after supervisors and invigilators at the school detected anomalies and launched investigations. Kisii Central Police Commander Peter Kimani said the suspect will be charged with impersonation.
