Kalonzo’s Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing After Developing Mechanical Glitch

A helicopter carrying Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was on Sunday forced to make an emergency landing after developing a mechanical problem.

Through Facebook, Musyoka said the aircraft made an emergency stop at the Suswa area within Narok County after a technical glitch, delaying his journey for hours.

Musyoka was on his way to Homa Bay County to join Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga and other leaders for a series of campaign rallies.

"Off to join my brother Raila Odinga and the Azimio-One Kenya team in Homabay County after a technicality that forced us to land in Suswa and delayed for some hours. The Buffalo is ready," Kalonzo wrote.

Musyoka’s Communications Director Paloma Gatabaki said pilots detected the mechanical problem and halted the journey, adding that the Wiper leader was evacuated by another helicopter.

"You drive a car, there is always an issue with a car somewhere or the other. That is what happened with the chopper but they are on their way and are fine,” she said.

“We have some of the most brilliantly trained pilots in Africa so if they see something that they are not feeling, they don't even board a flight. They could not even allow the chopper to leave that stage.”

Musyoka will be offered the Chief Cabinet Secretary position should the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition led by Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua win the August 9th elections.
