Azimio Will Not Boycott Upcoming Elections, Raila Assures Supporters

Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga has assured their supporters that they will not boycott the August 9th elections.

Addressing a campaign meeting at Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga on Thursday, Odinga exuded confidence that the coalition will win the upcoming presidential election by a wide margin.

“I know we are going to win. Already, we are at 65 percent, but I want it to go up to over 70 percent. They wrote that I said we will boycott election and I am asking how can we boycott an election that we are sure we are going to win?” Odinga posed.

However, Odinga warned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) against any attempts to interfere with the elections, saying they will not accept a flawed process.

“I was just sending a warning message that they should not even think of rigging because we will not accept. We are winners and I know Azimio has dominated almost all the regions. Our competitors will not get votes. We will defeat them,” he added.

The 77-year-old five-time presidential contender spoke a day after warning that there will be no elections unless the IEBC uses both manual and electronic voter registers to identify voters.

Odinga argued that failure to use a manual register along with the electronic register would be a recipe for vote fraud, accusing his main competitor Deputy President William Ruto of hatching a plot to rig elections.

“I am telling the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission that a manual register is a must in each and every polling station,” Odinga said while campaigning in Kiambu County.

“It is not negotiable, a manual register is a must along with the electronic register, otherwise No manual register, no elections.”

Such unbecoming, indecisive minds of in play. The other day Raila was telling his twinkling support base that if there won’t be manual registers, there won’t be election. This I believe he meant that he is boycotting because he has no mandate to stop the voting as scheduled.
Someone must have told him that he is setting himself up for even a bigger loose than anticipated. The reason why now we hear a reversal of the boycott.
Similarly, we are learning early enough of what to expect come Aug 9 when the loose is officially announced. Same drama as always the case with Raila when he does not meet the expectations.
