20 People Killed in a Ghastly Accident along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

20 people have lost their lives following a grisly accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on Friday evening.
The crash involving an 18-seater matatu and a trailer occurred between Taru and Samburu area in Kwale County along the busy highway.
The driver of the public service vehicle traveling to Mombasa from Nairobi was trying to overtake when the car collided head-on with an oncoming truck, according to Kwale County Police Commander Josephat Kinyua.
Confirming the accident, Kinango police commander Fred Ombaka said two children were among those killed in the 6:00 pm crash.
"We have established that the matatu was trying to overtake but unfortunately the driver lost control as it approached a trailer, leading to a head-on collision," he said.
Ombaka said the matatu registered to Wumeri Shuttle Company and registration number KCY 297N was coming from Nairobi and picked up other passengers at Voi Town as it headed to Mombasa.
The police chief advised drivers to be cautious while driving on the highway.
" If you are tired, you can stop and rest for a while before continuing with the journey, " he added.
The bodies of the deceased persons were taken to Kinango Sub County Hospital Mortuary in Kwale County.
Coast regional traffic commandant Peter Maina said investigations into the accident are ongoing.
