Dawn Inferno Destroys Property at KBC Headquarters

Police in Nairobi are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed property worth millions at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) headquarters along Harry Thuku Road.

The national broadcaster’s management said the inferno which broke out at around 5:40 am razed down the canteen, a stand-alone structure.

A combined team of firefighters from the General Service Unit (GSU) and the G4S responded to the incident and put out the fire by 7:30 am. KBC acting Managing Director Samuel Maina told the media that no casualties were reported.

“Normal broadcast operations were not disrupted as the fire did not touch the broadcasting house, the canteen is separate from the building housing the studio,” said Maina.

“We had to evacuate all staff first, including presenters, but once the fire was contained, they resumed work,” he added.
