Latest TIFA Opinion Poll Places Raila Ahead of Ruto in the Presidential Race

Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga would emerge victorious if elections were held today, according to a new survey by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA).

The survey released on Friday, 10 days to the August 9th general election, shows that Odinga is the most preferred presidential contender at 46.7 percent ahead of his main competitor Deputy President William Ruto whose popularity rating stands at 44.4 percent.

George Wajackoyah of Roots party polled at 1.8 percent while his Agano party counterpart David Mwaure trailed at 0.1 percent. The poll indicates that 5.2 percent of the respondents are still undecided.

TIFA Lead Researcher Tom Wolf says there is a possibility that Odinga, who is giving his fifth stab at the presidency, would not be a winner in the first round despite having more national support.

“The presence of Wajackoyah and Mwaure raises the possibility that neither Odinga nor Ruto will be able to secure a first-round win,” he said during a media briefing on Friday.

The poll conducted between July 21st and 26th further revealed that Odinga-Martha Karua ticket is supported by more men than women at 51 percent and 42 percent respectively.

“Ruto-Gachagua ticket doesn’t have a much gender gap,” Wolf noted.

Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya is the most preferred coalition at 47 percent followed by Kenya Kwanza at 42 percent while 11 percent of respondents were still undecided.

Odinga enjoys more support in Nyanza, Western, South Rift, Nairobi and Lower Eastern regions while Ruto dominates in Central Rift and Mt. Kenya.

A total of 2,000 registered voters were interviewed during the survey through a face-to-face method.

Euto has always cooked the numbers by bribing pollsters in every circle. Ruto m’s caloric temper, anger and bitterness can allow him to be the next president.

At the end of the day, ruto will realize he cannot fool the kikuyus for too long. They justifiably ate his stolen lot and now they have dumped ruto in earnest.
