Jubilee candidate in the Embu gubernatorial race Emilio Kathuri has ditched the ruling party and joined Deputy President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ahead of next week's general election.
Ruto, who is seeking to succeed President Kenyatta, made the announcement via Twitter on Friday, saying that Kathuri had resolved to quit the Embu gubernatorial race in favor of UDA’s candidate Cecily Mbarire.
The deputy president further announced that Jubilee candidate for Embu Woman Representative seat Susan Nyaga also ditched the President Kenyatta-led party and dropped her bid to back UDA’s Pamela Njoki.
“The Hustler Nation wave is real! Embu Jubilee governor candidate Emilio Kathuri has quit the race and now supports UDA’s Cecily Mbarire. Susan Nyaga (Jubilee) has also abandoned her quest for Women Rep seat in favor of Pamela Njoki,” Ruto wrote.
This comes days after Jubilee candidate for the Embakasi East parliamentary race Maina Waruinge also shelved his bid in favor of Francis Mureithi of UDA. Mureithi is battling for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat with incumbent MP Babu Owino of ODM.
