Raila’s Brother Oburu Odinga Clinches Siaya Senate Seat

East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Dr. Oburu Odinga has won the Siaya senate seat.

Oburu, who is the elder brother of Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga, emerged the winner of the race after collecting 285,595 votes, beating his main competitor Julius Okinda, who scored 33,898 votes.

Speaking after he was declared the winner, the 79-year-old thanked supporters for electing despite his age, saying his younger competitors were not yet “mature” enough for the Senate.

“I want to thank Siaya for honoring me with a chance to lead you as your senator. I am over 70 but you have selected me from much younger people. But then, their maturity to represent people in the senate has not yet come,” said Oburu.

He replaces senior counsel James Orengo who has been elected as the new governor of Homa Bay County.

Over 6.1 million smart Jaluos dominated by one- Odinga family for more than 60 years! What happened? Now, the nearly 80 years old geezer is telling you that you are not mature enough to lead. Really? What an insult? Wake up comrades, you can do it! You cannot put all your eggs in one basket- you should have known that!

In politics wisdom rarely comes with age. These senior citizens are stuck in their old ways unable to effectively represent citizens in the modern world. Surely we can do better.
