Transition Team Announces Swearing-in Date of President-Elect Will Be a Public Holiday

The Assumption of Office of the President Committee on Friday held its inaugural meeting to make preparations for handing over by the outgoing President to the President-elect.
Addressing the media at Harambee House, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua who chaired the committee said they are ready to facilitate a smooth transition and will be making periodic updates of the process.
“In fidelity with the dictates of our Constitution, I have this morning chaired the inaugural meeting of the Assumption of the office of President committee," said Kinyua.
Kinyua said the mandate of the committee will begin once the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) formally declares the president-elect.
The committee is tasked with facilitating the handing-over process between the outgoing president and the president-elect, organizing security, personnel, and facilities needed for the president-elect, facilitating the briefing of the president-elect by various public officers, and organizing the swearing-in ceremony of the president-elect.
Kinyua further announced that the date of the swearing-in of the president-elect will be declared a public holiday.
He was accompanied by other members of the committee including Attorney General Paul Kihara, Chief of Defence Forces Robert Kibochi, Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho and Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau.
