Abdi Guyo of Isiolo Becomes First MCA to be Elected Governor in Kenya

Former Leader of Majority in the Nairobi County Assembly Abdi Ibrahim Hassan Guyo has made history as the first MCA to rise to the position of governor.

Guyo, who is the outgoing MCA for Matopeni/Spring Valley Ward in Nairobi, has been declared the winner of the Isiolo County gubernatorial race after defeating former governor Godana Doyo and former EACC CEO Halakhe Waqo Dida.

Vying on a Jubilee Party ticket, Guyo garnered 28,946 votes against Doyo’s 26,270 votes and Waqo’s 2,249 votes to clinch the top seat.

Addressing supporters in Isiolo town after he was declared the winner, Guyo pledged to serve all residents diligently regardless of whether they voted for him or not.

Guyo served as the Councillor for Matopeni/Spring Valley ward in Nairobi for one term before the onset of devolution. He went on to be elected as the area MCA in 2013 and 2017, rising to the position of Leader of Majority in the assembly during his second term.

This year, Guyo shifted his focus from Nairobi to his birthplace of Isiolo and becomes the first MCA to rise to the position of governor in Kenya.
