Wangui Ngirici Vows to Challenge Waiguru's Win in Kirinyaga Governor Race

Outgoing Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici says she will challenge the results of the county’s gubernatorial election.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, Ngirici claimed that she has evidence that the election was rigged in favor of incumbent governor Anne Waiguru.

“I am not bitter with anybody, I am only going to follow through and make sure the will of the people will not be subverted. We are going to go on, we will make a petition,” said Ngirici.

Ngirici, who vied for the seat on an independent ticket, alleged that approximately 51,000 votes were illegally added to Waiguru’s tally and expressed confidence that justice will be in her favor.

“I want to tell my supporters to keep calm because I know this county supported me and people believe that there is democracy in Kenya, I also believe so. Let’s keep praying…. Don’t call me to say sorry, tell me Christ liveth,” Ngirici said.

Contesting under a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, Waiguru was declared the winner on Friday after securing 113,088 votes ahead of Ngirici who scored 105,677 votes.
