Ford-Kenya's Wafula Wakoli Wins Bungoma Senate By-Election

The electoral commission has declared Wafula Wakoli as the winner of the Bungoma senatorial by-election, which was held on Thursday.
Wakoli, who vied on a Ford-Kenya party ticket, clinched the seat after garnering 66,023 votes ahead of his closest competitor Mwambu Mabonga of the UDA party, who managed to get 45,907 votes.
Wafula Wamunyinyi of the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K), an affiliate of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition, came in third with 20,519 votes.
Other candidates included Elias Barasa of the People's Empowerment Party, Fredrick Busolo (Vibrant Democracy Party), Aaron Wafula (Republican Liberty Party), Geoffrey Barasa (National Ordinary People Empowerment Union), and Robert Sifuna (Roots Party of Kenya). Enock Opara, Julius Masinde and Radon Munoko contested as independent candidates.
The seat fell vacant in September after Senator Moses Wetang’ula stepped down and successfully contested for the National Assembly Speaker position.
