TSC Announces Recruitment of Over 35,000 Teachers in January 2023

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has advertised 35,550 positions for primary and junior secondary school teachers.

In a notice published on Friday, the commission said it has 9,000 vacancies for secondary school teachers and another 1,000 for primary school teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.

It is also seeking to hire 21,550 junior secondary school teacher interns and 4,000 primary school interns.

“Successful candidates will be posted to serve to any primary or junior secondary school in the county where they were interviewed or in any part of the country where the vacancy exists,” reads the notice.

TSC added that successful candidates for junior secondary schools will be required to teach various learning areas under Junior Secondary Curriculum.

The commission had earlier announced it would prioritize the recruitment of junior secondary teachers in the January mass recruitment.

An education taskforce formed by President Ruto to review the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) recommended the hiring of 30,000 new teachers for junior secondary schools, citing a nationwide scarcity of tutors.

The government said all Grade 6 students who completed their Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) last month would transition to junior secondary schools domiciled in existing primary schools.
