Over 20,000 Jamhuri Day Fete Attendees Get Scholarships for Online Courses

Over 20,000 people who attended the 59th Mashujaa Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on Monday were handed scholarships on Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation by President Ruto.

Ruto said the attendees will get access to a free 16-unit course worth $1,000 (Sh120,000) each that the government has paid for by scanning QR codes at the stadium.

The course is provided by Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management, which offers programs designed to prepare students to navigate the dynamic digital world.

“As promised, everyone present in this stadium today will get a free scholarship on global entrepreneurship and innovation from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University,” said Ruto.

“It is now time to keep the promise. There is a QR Code near you. Scan and access the scholarship now. A 16-unit course that would have cost you Sh100,000, is now accessible to you for free, courtesy of the Innovation Jamhuri,” he added.

The courses are offered under the Francis and Dionne Najafi 100 Million Learners Global Initiative which was launched in January by Thunderbird School of Global Management.

This initiative aims to offer online, global education from world-class accredited institutions in 40 different languages to learners across the globe at no cost to the learner. 

It also seeks to advance Thunderbird’s mission to empower and influence global leaders and managers who maximize the benefits of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to advance equitable and sustainable prosperity worldwide.

Ruto expressed the government’s appreciation to companies and organizations that have stepped forward to make Kenya “a hotbed of innovation.”

“We will continue to do our part and make such partnerships bigger in the future and you are always welcome to be part of Kenya’s journey to greatness,” he added.
