Kidero's Driver, Bodyguard Among Victims of Grisly Londiani Accident

Trade and Investment Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) appointee Evans Kidero has released a statement after his aides were involved in the fatal accident at Londiani on Friday, June 30.

Through his communication officer Jack Nduri, Kidero disclosed that his driver and bodyguard were among the dozens involved in the road carnage. According to the statement, the two were inside a black Range Rover with registration KBS 786R when it was hit from the back and side by a trailer which had lost control. This SUV was one of the many vehicles involved in the crash that took place at the Londiani junction of the Kericho-Nakuru highway on June 30, 2023.

“My driver and Sammy soldier (the bodyguard) were part of the accident victims at Londiani where more than 50 people lost their lives and a similar number in critical condition at various hospitals in Rift Valley. Our hearts go out to families who lost loved ones with heartfelt condolences and prayers,” Kidero said in a statement.

The former Nairobi governor mentioned that his aides survived the tragic accident. Reports suggested that the truck had gone out of control at the junction, running over pedestrians, businesspeople, and vehicles parked by the roadside. Londiani OCPD Agnes Kunga verified the occurrence and said that more than 60 injured victims were rushed to Londiani, Kericho, and Nakuru hospitals amid a heavy downpour.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen visited the scene of the accident on Saturday morning. The CS stated that counties and the national government will provide market spaces to help relocate the traders.
