Dialogue Team Agrees on Election Results Audit, IEBC Recruitment

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has achieved significant success in the ongoing bipartisan negotiations after a decision was made to revamp the selection panel for the electoral commission and conduct an audit of last year's presidential election.

According to credible sources, it has come to light that the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya led by Raila Odinga has suggested a novel course of action in revising the appointment of commissioners. The recommendation involves imitating the Inter-Party Parliamentary Group approach for selecting commissioners in the lead-up to the 1997 General Election. This proposal, which also aims to expand the panel from seven to nine members, is included in the committee's initial report and will soon be presented to Parliament. As a result, the current panel led by Nelson Makanda will be disbanded in order to establish a new body.

Amending the IEBC Act, which establishes the selection panel, is needed for this process. This update comes shortly after the National Assembly modified the Act to alter the panel's composition. The committee has plans to expedite the implementation of legal changes on certain matters that they have agreed upon which will be included in the final report of the 10-member team.

On Monday, technical teams will assemble to prepare the issues agreed upon and deliver them to Parliament so that they can be debated and ratified. Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire reports that Kenya Kwanza has consented to undergo an audit of the electoral servers. This is considered a significant victory for Azimio's leaders and followers. Pursuant to reports, the audit will not only focus on the results and the IEBC server but will also encompass the pre-election procedures.
