Man, 57, Charged with Murder of Elderly Mother

In a Kiambu court, Benson Njoroge Ngugi and Peter Ngugi Wanjiku have been charged with the murders of three individuals in Matathia village.
The victims, Peninah Wairimu Ngugi, Pauline Njeri, and their house help, Joyce Wanjiru, were allegedly killed two months ago. The prosecution alleges that the motive for the attack may be financial, as the family had recently sold property in Ruiru town. The judge on Tuesday denied the defendant's request for bail and ordered them to remain in separate remand prisons until their next hearing on March 13. The mother of the household was allegedly strangled to death by the two individuals. When the housekeeper arrived to investigate the situation, she too was violently attacked and murdered by the assailants.
Further tragedy struck when the daughter, arriving to check on her mother, entered the house and witnessed the horrific scene. She was then brutally assaulted and killed. In a separate case, Saphina Amudede appeared in court today facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder. The prosecution alleges that Amudede plotted to kill her son-in-law, S K, due to ongoing domestic disputes and a custody battle. According to court documents, Amudede approached a security guard seeking to hire a hitman and offered Sh50,000 for the job.
The security guard, working undercover with the police, posed as the hitman and gathered evidence against Amudede. She was arrested and denied the charges. The judge granted her bail of Sh200,000 cash or a Sh300,000 bond. The case will be mentioned again on March 25, 2024.
