Founded on June 1, 1964, coinciding with Kenya's first Madaraka Day anniversary, the Kenya Air Force has played a crucial role in defending and maintaining the nation's sovereignty. Its network of bases and forward operating bases across the country underscores its dedication to national security. Beyond defence logistics, the KAF has extended its responsibilities to include vital humanitarian efforts and regional cooperation. The 60th-anniversary celebrations have also witnessed a historic moment with the appointment of Major General Fatuma Ahmed as the first female service commander, succeeding Lt Gen John Omenda, who became the vice chief of Defence forces.
The event honours the men and women who have contributed to the KAF's storied history, with officers, airmen, and women participating in a 60-kilometre walk and cycling exercise to showcase unity and resilience. During the ceremony, the Kenya Air Force highlighted its historical milestones, advancements in military technology, and contributions to national security.
