On August 19, Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Dr Ezekiel Mutua received the prestigious Leadership Award at the Human Harmony Conference and Awards in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The event acknowledged Mutua's substantial contributions to leadership and governance. His commitment to promoting ethical leadership has significantly impacted the organizations and communities he has served, inspiring others to lead with integrity and purpose. In his acceptance speech, Mutua emphasized the importance of integrity, transparency, and accountability in leadership roles. He articulated that leadership is not about wielding power, but rather about responsibility and service to the people.
Mutua delivered an inspiring address on the crucial role of ethical leadership in driving sustainable development and social progress, sharing his experiences in fostering trust and collaboration among diverse stakeholders through ethical leadership practices. The Human Harmony Conference, an annual gathering of leaders from various sectors, aims to promote peace, unity, and sustainable development through ethical leadership. This year's conference focused on building a harmonious and prosperous future for all, attracting government officials, business leaders, and representatives from non-governmental organizations.
With over 25 years in the media and broadcast sector, including 15 years at the senior management level, he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to ethical leadership. Mutua currently serves as the First Vice Chairperson for the African Film Content Standard Setting Steering Committee and has held various positions that have positively influenced Kenya's media and communication landscape. In 2010, President Mwai Kibaki awarded Mutua the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS), one of Kenya's highest honours, for his outstanding contribution to the country.
His leadership at the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) from 2015 to 2021 further solidified his reputation as a champion of ethical standards in the media industry. The Leadership Award at the Human Harmony Conference reflects Mutua's unwavering commitment to promoting ethical leadership. His efforts have not only transformed the organizations he has led but have also inspired a new generation of leaders to prioritize integrity and accountability. Since becoming CEO of MCSK in March 2022, Mutua has focused on protecting musicians' rights and ensuring fair distribution of royalties, revitalizing Kenya's music industry by fostering a culture of transparency and trust.
