President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA), is set to receive a substantial Sh558.5 million from the 2024/2025 political party funding allocation.
The ruling party emerges as the primary beneficiary, securing an impressive Sh558.5 million. This allocation dwarfs that of its main rival, Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which is set to receive Sh298.3 million. The substantial disparity in funding between UDA and ODM is attributed to the former's electoral success. UDA's dominant performance in the recent elections, securing 22 out of 47 Senate seats and 138 elected members in the National Assembly, has translated into a considerable financial advantage. This allocation represents a marked increase from the previous year's Sh316 million.
The Jubilee Party, once the ruling party under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has experienced a slight recovery in its allocation. Although it will receive Sh130.8 million, up from last year's Sh39 million, this figure still pales in comparison to its former financial standing. Smaller political entities have also been allocated funds, albeit in more modest amounts. Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Democratic Movement is set to receive Sh69.9 million, while Gideon Moi's Kenya National African Union (KANU) will obtain Sh23.3 million. Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress and Moses Wetangula's Ford Kenya have been allocated Sh25.8 million and Sh25 million, respectively.
These allocations, though smaller, are crucial for maintaining the operations and relevance of these parties in the political landscape. The funding allocation serves multiple purposes beyond mere financial support. As outlined by Registrar Ann Nderitu, these funds are intended to promote democratic participation with a particular focus on inclusivity. The allocation aims to enhance the involvement of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups in the political process.
Furthermore, it seeks to ensure diverse representation in both Parliament and County Assemblies, thereby enriching the political discourse with varied perspectives. This financial boost comes at a critical time as political parties begin preparations for the next general elections. The substantial sums allocated to UDA and ODM are expected to fuel extensive political campaigns and increase their influence. Meanwhile, smaller parties will be keenly monitoring the situation to maintain their relevance in an increasingly competitive political environment.
I wish one YES voter can explain the reasons I pay thugs Ruto,Raila,Uhuru,Kalonzo,Musalia etc for killing Kenyans and looting their money.Or is there anything positive to talk about them?Only dictatorial China and Russia have ruling parties financed by citizens.Another institutional corruption.
