Househelp Confesses to Killing Naivasha Medic, Body Found Buried in Shallow Grave

The body of Jane Wambui Njoroge, a clinical officer at Naivasha sub-County Hospital, has been discovered buried in her compound in the Raini Trading Centre, following her disappearance on 4 July.

Police have arrested Chebet, a domestic worker employed by the deceased and her husband, John Kimani. Chebet has reportedly confessed to the murder. The grim discovery has sent shockwaves through the close-knit community, where the couple were respected landlords known for their generosity. Ms Wambui, a paediatrics specialist, was reported missing after failing to attend scheduled social and religious engagements, including a women's fundraiser and Sunday service at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa.

Her absence prompted a search effort led by her husband and fellow church members, culminating in the discovery of her body in a shallow grave behind their residence. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Chebet admitted to striking Ms Wambui with a blunt object, believed to be a hammer, during an argument. The suspect then allegedly concealed the body, wrapping it in Ms Wambui's clothing before burying it on the property in an attempt to evade detection.

DCI officials are currently analysing Chebet's phone records to determine if other individuals were involved in the crime. Several years ago, Ms Wambui and Mr Kimani provided shelter to Chebet when she struggled to afford rent. Subsequently, they employed her as a house help, gradually integrating her into their household.

Mr Kimani expresses his disbelief and anguish, saying, "This is someone we welcomed and helped during her time of need. I still cannot comprehend how she could do this to my wife."

He also reveals that Ms Wambui had been battling cancer, compounding the tragedy. Naivasha sub-County Police Commander Antony Keter has confirmed that Chebet remains the primary suspect, but the investigation has expanded to explore other potential links and accomplices. Investigators are focusing on the suspected planning involved in concealing the body, raising questions about the motive and level of premeditation.

The incident has deeply affected the local community. Reverend Nancy Wanjiku of the PCEA describes Ms Wambui as a dedicated congregant whose sudden disappearance raised immediate concerns.

"Her absence was out of character," Reverend Wanjiku said. "We knew something was wrong, and the community united in the search. It is heartbreaking that it ended in tragedy."
