Stolen iPhone Leads Police to Recovery of 300 Stolen Gadgets in Mihang’o

Police have arrested two individuals in Nairobi’s Mihang’o area in connection with a major electronics theft ring.

Acting on intelligence following a report of a stolen iPhone 15, officers from Embakasi Police Station located the suspects at Turin Court residential complex. A search of the premises uncovered the stolen iPhone along with 321 mobile phones, seven laptops, various accessories such as chargers and phone covers, and audio equipment including a music system and two speakers.

The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that all recovered items have been seized as evidence ahead of criminal proceedings. In a statement, the NPS thanked the public for providing vital information and praised the cooperation between officers from Kayole and Embakasi police stations, which led to the arrests and recovery.

The suspects remain in custody at Embakasi Police Station pending formal processing and arraignment. This arrest marks a significant step in addressing organised property crime in Nairobi’s eastern suburbs, an area that has seen increased thefts targeting warehouses and residences storing high-value electronics.

Earlier this year, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended two suspects linked to a Ksh17.6 million electronics theft during the Easter holiday. That incident involved the forced entry into two Embakasi warehouses, resulting in the theft of hundreds of television sets, soundbars, laptops, and other equipment.

The timing of the theft, when staff were away for the long weekend, exposed weaknesses in commercial security and prompted calls for improved surveillance and inventory management. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities expected to pursue further leads to dismantle the wider network connected to these crimes
