UK and German Institutions Offer Fully Funded Opportunities for Kenyan Students
Kenyan students can apply for two international scholarship programmes announced by institutions in the United Kingdom and Germany, offering funding for postgraduate study and professional training abroad.
Aston University in Birmingham will provide fully funded master’s scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year through support from the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust. Each scholarship will cover the full tuition fee of £22,500, equivalent to about KSh 4 million, and include an additional £6,000, around KSh 1.06 million, to support living expenses.
Applicants must still prove to UK Visas and Immigration that they can meet any remaining living costs. The scholarships are open to applicants from Africa and India. Candidates must hold at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree, or an equivalent qualification, in a relevant field. Aston University stated that applications submitted through agencies will not be accepted and that students must apply directly.
Eligible courses include pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, psychology conversion, neuroscience for drug discovery, addiction and mental health, bioinformatics, genomic medicine, and public health. Applications close on 29 May 2026, and successful candidates are expected to be notified by 30 June.
The programme forms part of wider efforts by UK universities to attract international students, particularly in health and life sciences. These areas are considered increasingly important in addressing global health and research challenges.
In Germany, applications are also open for the International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS), which gives young professionals an opportunity to learn about the work of the Bundestag. The programme includes a monthly stipend of €700, approximately KSh 106,000, free accommodation, and full travel expenses.
Participants will also enrol at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin during the summer semester and may take up to two academic courses. The IPS programme focuses on political and civic engagement.
Applicants must be under 30 years old, hold a university degree, and show a strong interest in politics alongside evidence of community involvement. They must also demonstrate German language proficiency at a minimum B2 level. The application deadline is 15 May 2026.
The two programmes offer Kenyan students access to international academic and professional networks while reducing the financial barriers associated with studying abroad.
