How Nakuru Woman’s Evening Walk Ended in Abduction

A 30-year-old woman from Nakuru was abducted on 30 November, triggering concerns over rising insecurity in the area.

Irene Nduta had finished work in Nakuru town and was walking home when she was seized by unknown assailants. Her family became alarmed when she failed to return home as expected.

After several hours without contact, the family received a call from Nduta’s phone, but the voice was not hers. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Sh50,000 and warned her father not to involve the police.

The family reported the abduction to authorities, who referred them to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). After tense negotiations, the kidnappers accepted a reduced ransom of Sh20,000, which was sent via mobile money using Nduta’s phone.

The next day, she was found unconscious near her home and taken to hospital. Doctors confirmed that she was stable but traumatised. Nakuru County Criminal Investigation Officer Samuel Ngeiywa stated that investigations are ongoing.

Police are awaiting a formal statement from Nduta, which may provide further details about the crime.
