Murang’a Woman Rep. Betty Maina Confirms She is Dating Mathira MP Eric Mwangi

Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina has announced her relationship with Mathira MP Eric Mwangi Wamumbi.

While wishing him a happy 35th birthday on Thursday, Maina shared a photo of her and Mwangi, whom she introduced as the love of her life.

"35 years is a major achievement. Live long my love," Maina wrote on Facebook.

Maina, who was elected as the second Murang’a Woman Rep. in the August 9th general election, is a divorcee and has two children from her previous marriage.

In an interview in October, the former director of the Athi Water Development Agency opened up about her first marriage and why it failed. She indicated that she was young and naïve.

"I have dated and been given character development before. I have been married before and the union bore two kids. We were young and given a chance there are things I would do differently,” she said.

"I cannot blame myself or my ex-husband for the breakup. He is my friend and I would never want anything bad to happen to him... We are open to love again."

Mwangi, a former MCA for Konyu Ward in Nyeri, lost his wife Catherine Nyambura in May 2020. Nyambura’s body was found floating at Hohwe dam, a day after she was reported missing.

Mwangi, who was questioned by detectives in connection with his wife’s death, eulogized her as the best thing that ever happened to him. He said her death left a great emptiness in his life and that of his two sons.
