MP Aspirant Shoots Self at Moi International Airport

Matuga Constituency parliamentary candidate is nursing serious bullet injuries at a Mombasa hospital after accidentally shooting himself on the lower abdomen.

Kassim Sawa, who is contesting for the seat on Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani National Congress (ANC), shot himself while undergoing a security check-up at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa on Wednesday.

Moi International Airport deputy OCPD Beatrice Kigalu while confirming the incident said that the politician unintentionally shot himself while he was asked to hand ovs er the firearm as part of security check-ups in the airport.

"He is a licensed firearm holder. It happened when he was giving out the firearm as required in the security procedures at the facility," she said.

Kigalu added that the victim was rushed to Bomu Hospital and the bullet was still lodged in his lower abdomen even as investigations into the incident continue.

"We have also launched our investigations on the same so that we get more details about the incident," she added.
