Raila Says He Won't Sign Form 24A to Officially Withdraw from Race

Opposition leader Raila Odinga says that he will not fill statutory form 24A that Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) insisted he must fill to officially pull out of the October 26th presidential election.

Speaking in interview with Citizen TV's Hussein Mohamed in London, the National Super Alliance (NASA) leader maintained he has withdrawn from the contest.

In a statement on Wednesday, the IEBC said the NASA flagbearer has not officially bowed out of the presidential contest as he was yet to fill and sign Form 24A as required by the electoral regulations. “We note that the Rt. Honorable Raila Odinga and his running mate sent a letter dated 10 October 2017 indicating that they had decided to withdraw from the fresh Presidential election. They, however, have not submitted the statutory Form 24A,” the IEBC statement read. NASA maintains that this requirement does not apply in this case of a repeat election.

In a separate interview with Reuters while in London, Raila indicated that the coalition will be seeking clarification from the Supreme Court on whether the October 26th election is legal. "As far as we are concerned, that (original Supreme Court) ruling is still valid," he said during a visit to London. "What we are demanding is that the electoral commission should respect the Supreme Court and carry out elections in accordance with the ruling," he told Reuters.

RAO is trying to change heart and remain in the race. He knows once he signs 24A, he is done and done for ever. If your lawyers are as good as they think they are, you should not have been duped into making the announcement prematurely. You are the greatest loser ever. All magical acts and theatrics have an end. And, your end is now. I beg you RAO, please sign the form; we have already dug your political grave.

If Raila has pulled out of the election, why does his party continue to call for the ouster of the IEBC officials through protests? It's very sad that some people have already died in the process while Raila and his family members will continue to enjoy the good things of this world.

"If Raila has pulled out of the election, why does his party continue to call for the ouster of the IEBC officials through protests.......?" Good question @ochuonyo. The reason is he, RAO, is just out to cause chaos...pain of REJECTION and its BITTERNESS being extended to the general mwananchi and Uhuruto. He is letting it out on those who have sealed his fate of NEVER, EVER being president! He's also a SELFISH and GREEDY person, characteristics we have all seen over time.

A leader who does not follow Constitutional laws but talks about others not following the same Constitution all day long is not worth the ground he walks on. He is an enemy of the state.

IEBC can continue to play dumb and look for all sorts of excuses to have Raila on the ballot so as to validate the sham elections. You forgot about NASA and the judiciary. When one contestant withdraws there MUST be fresh nominations. Why has no one among these so called learned jubilee lawyers consulted the judiciary specifically the Supreme court on the way forward.Obviously because they do not want to face the truth. No Raila no elections.

I think in a political contest capitalizing on loopholes can get you as close as possible to the throne but not on the throne. You can bring others down the ladder through devious means but you got to know how to climb to be on top. So most of nasa plans are clever but they are one way. When their plan A fails they go bananas because there is no plan B. So to allow time to go back to their drawing boards, they employ diversionary tactics including veiled threats to violence of mass action. This holding of a country hostage for political expediency is baffling. Where are the checks and balances in our political system? unorthodox litigation left and right suffocating even ordinary law. Reminds me of the fable of a man and his son carrying a donkey. “PLEASE ALL, AND YOU WILL PLEASE NONE.”

@ anonymous by no means do I want to sound rude but you are ignorant. All the candidates were permissed to be on th ballot there is okot and forgot the other one.. this worship of draconian communist must stop.. In the powerful mind of human there is something called fear. Fear is what led to face his political death bed. When you call coups, violence, demonstrations that's what the mind perceives you to be. Raila is his own worst enemy. Had he conceded and followed right paths to make his political argument he would stand a chance. But for he is viewed as chronic thorn that punctures everyone including his own base.. his legacy seriously tainted with violence and demonstrations. Those last breaths of his draconian activism is what peole will remember. You have to learn the mind game..he lost and he should STOP all this nonsense it's only hurting him even more...

You would think that since baba opposes everything and I mean everything, the natural thing he should have done is reject my namesake's ruling and accepted UhuRuto won. That would be rational based on how he thinks/operates. Based on this proposition, he must call a presser tomorrow and demand that UhuRuto be sworn in immediately. If that doesn't happen he should call for "peaceful" protests to demand Chebu to declare Uhunye Prezzo. Tibim!
