Former IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe Links CEO Chiloba to Bungled August 8th Election

Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Roselyn Akombe continues making claims of the rot at the electoral agency ahead of next Thursday's election, days after her resignation from the poll agency.

Speaking in an Interview with the Nation from New York, the former commissioner said that political interference has crippled the electoral commission's ability to hold a credible election.

"The commissioners can’t agree on anything and if they did, chances are that the decisions made would be ignored by the Secretariat,".

"In the end, you end up going round and round without making any meaningful decisions," she said.

She said that members of the commission have been operating under threats, bribery and intimidation from political quarters to an extent that making upright decision is almost an impossibility.

"Decisions are made somewhere else and passed on for ratification and implementation,"

"Commissioners and senior staff at the secretariat are put in line through bribery and threats. If you don’t agree with them then your life is in danger," she said.

"The other commissioners shot down every suggestion I made to level the playing field as had been recommended by the Supreme Court, so my position in the commission became untenable because I knew we were not complying with the court orders," she added.

She says that soon after asking the job, things started dawning on her that, it was not what she expected after all.

"In many ways, my plan to come back to the US started as soon as I got the commission job because while I believed I got the job because I [was] qualified, there were those who wanted to make me feel that I was undeserving of the job,".

"In essence, they wanted me to be beholden to them."

Dr Akombe said that IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba and a few other officials were responsible for the bungled August 8th election, as they misled the whole team on what was going on behind the scenes.

"Chiloba and his team misled the commissioners about what was happening with the servers,".

"When the chairman recommended their dismissal, he was out-voted so we couldn’t implement the changes necessary to carry out credible elections," she revealed.

She said that the fact that Chiloba took a three-week leave cannot guarantee a credible election on October 26th.

"The first recommendation from the Chairman soon after the Supreme Court judgment was that some staff in the secretariat, among them Chiloba, had to step aside if the commission was to carry out credible elections, at least to meet the Supreme Court set standards,".

"This recommendation fronted by the chairman and myself was shot down by some members of the commission whose allegiance was clearly somewhere else," she said.

"But leaving now just six days to [the] election does not make any difference."

WHY: Because FYI Sharrif Mwajembe:"The US,EU, & the UK did NOT and NEITHER do they work with the IEBC. Therefore THEY have NO WAY OF CONFIRMING Ms. Akombe's Allegations whatsoever. She just wants to throw her phd weight around ordering everyone around like we saw (on TV) how she treated Chebkati like an invalid. Domineering, she is. Does she even know how to work with others? She is evil and I think she wanted IEBC to fail....her mission was totally different, from the word go.

I hope she has replied to UN's letter of October 29th about potential abuse of office....can she tell us more about that.

She is a very intelligent woman and don't assume she doesn't have credible evidence to back her claims. Just chill and watch as things unfold. This is not the 1St time and first country she has ever conducted elections. Our Kenyans are corrupt from A to Z.period.

The Biggest problem in Kenya is LEADERSHIP.

Kenyans are being led by people who they did not vote for.

Some people at Statehouse, NIS and "Powers that be" have been selecting leaders in Kenya.

They have done this by Controlling and manipulating the IEBC.

They have been FIXING the elections in Kenya.

To solve this problem, the leaders Kenyans have elected have to be the leaders who govern them.

The election must me cancelled and the crooked IEBC that cleared shady characters like Joho, Sonko, and Waiguru to run for public elective office dismantled.

Uhuru and Raila, you have served your time in the public domain for sometime. Don't make politics your career. Divert your energies to something else besides politics.

And FYI: If Ms. Akombe Had NOT Quit the IEBC, that's When She Stood to Lose the UN Job. So She with her INTEGRITY intact, she did the right thing to QUIT the IEBC. The fact that other commissioners shot down your "level playing field" ideas does not mean they were against credible elections. It is not either your way or the highway, no it is working together for a common good. Team work is not about the "top notch ideas", it is about viable ideas. Managing conflict and navigating ambiguity is a leadership skill you seems to confess to lack. Building consensus is not a walk in the park. That is why they need these many commissioners, to get diverse and tested ideas-not just what two or three think is noble idea. Even at jua kali joint getting a buy-in is not a matter of shoving untested ideas down peoples throats. I guess IEBC and Kenya in general is not short of people who know "what needs to be done" and "how it needs to be done" the interest is in "why it needs to be done." Unless one wants to write a book or appear in NYT or Lecture series, this media frenzy may not be doing your agency any good.

Next news Media ; Akombe has hired an agent, a publisher and a personal lawyer. And she shall write a tell all dossier, she will be named Barbara Walters person of the year, she might get a slot with Don Lemon or Anderson cooper on CNN 9 Pm EST , maybe NBC 8AM EST with Matt Lauer or Lester Holts at prime time 7 PM EST ; oh and there is Oprah in 60minutes, and God forbid she has some insight on the Msango ssga on 20/20. Oh and in 6 months she will be writing a book that will be a NY times best seller coupled with more Bbc , Sky tv, Deustch wella tv, al jazeera interwiews, I can see her on the front page of Economist, heck FT cannot be left behind and Bloomberg might just use her to describe her effect on the bearish behavior of NMG shares on NSE . Thereon , she shall quit UN and be a permanent fixture in cable news as a political analyst. There Akombe, Dreams are made off...... Au contraire, the reality might be quite different. Akombe, what about allegation that your sexual promiscuity disrupted proper functioning of the commission?. That your presence at the commission served to create division and facilitated behind the scene infighting that was taking place. It's been alleged that you had sexual relationship with almost all male commissioners and that at one point there was a fist fight between you and Orengo in what was described as love affair gone wrong. Could you please shed light as to what was going on?. Your resignation at the height of election has left the country in limbo and we feel you owe us an explanation. Your actions point to you been part of a conspiracy group led by Raila that are planning to take over Kenya government through backdoor.

one of the tenents of a good leader,if you call Akombe aleader is courage.To be couragious, one has to point our evil as soon as they see it. Not at a convenient place safe from harm.When you stand true to your convictions, you should be ready to face the consequences,or else you are a coward,and dont belong there.
Kenya media is pretty independent I would say. All Akombe had to do is call the media and spill the beans ,and let those who want to doubt her for whatever reason do.At the end of the day, the truth wins...

The known recomendation the supreme court made was a repeat of elections within 60 days. The SC does not supervise the elections body. There are already laid down rules that governs credidible elections. Dr. Angombe is only trying to mislead or show partisanship. Who gave you threats? And who offered to bribe you? Tell us how you know others were threatened or bribed.
Resigning now just a few days to elections does not make any difference!

Dr. Roselyn Akombe, you have joined the list of Kenyans heroes who have made history. Truth is a rare commodity in Kenya. That's why a few of my Kenyan brothers and sisters are challenging you because you the violated the Kenyan code. The Kenyan code is: Lie! Lie! Lie!

That's why we have unbelievable elected public servants whose names should not have been cleared by the bribed, immoral, and corrupt IEBC!

My piece of advice to you sister Akwembo, Don't think that you are safe in the USA! Please go to a notary public and also a reputable lawyer, make all your statements under oath and send them to Kenya. The system that killed Msando is still intact. Dada, you are not safe at all in the USA. I don't want to hear that you have been "msandonized or Jumanized," in other words "KILLED."

Given the situation currently in the IEBC by an insider, and buying more information from the Chairman of the IEBC and from the judgement of the petition bythe suppreme court, Only fools would accept to go for an election whose results will be no doubt, chaos and bloodshed. From all what we have heard and from what is suspected about the death of Msando, what else do Kenyans want to know in order to believe, that all is not well? Kenyans should use their brains well.
