Kenyans Online React to US-Based Scholar Makau Mutua's Tweet about Thursday's Repeat Poll

Kenyan online have roasted New York-based Kenyan law scholar Makau Mutua over a Tweet questioning the legitimacy of Uhuru's Presidency after Thursday's repeat presidential election.

Makau, a fierce critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee government said that opposition leader Raila Odinga won the repeat Presidential election from the look of what the incumbent garnered.

He said that the two-thirds of Kenyans who obeyed Raila's call not to vote confirmed that he is the winner of the poll.

“Two-thirds of Kenyans voted for Odinga by boycotting the election. Less than one-third voted for Kenyatta. Who’s the president?” Makau tweeted.

However, his tweet sparked an online outrage from a section of Kenyans. Here are a number of reactions from Kenyans.

What a simple stupid argument from a man who calls miself professor. A grade school student would have a better argument than presented by this idot professor.

A whole professor jumping into the band wagon of the less educated to promote propaganda and all he has to do is look back and research for the sake of himself and the nation. Such a lazy mind that ought to be fired by the university. Poor kids who have to listen to him in class after paying lots of money in college.

Wisdom does not always equate to scholastic achievement. How can you reason that those who stayed home "voted" for Raila. So staying away from voting posts=voting.Boggles the mind professor...
My 4year old tells me that a winner is the one who comes on top in a contest, and the one who does not take part in the contest has no chance of winning. Its like playing the lottery .If you dont take part, you have ZERO chances of winning.Uhuru won.He says.
I asked him"son, when you grow up,what do you want to do?",he said to teach professors.I was scared that he might ask me what they call such a person, but he ran out to pay with his soccer ball. And I continued perusing Mwakilishi.

On matters of preferences, self attribution biases or prejudices no science or analysis is required we all have them. But on matters of fact understanding of cause-and-effect is pivotal in reasoning and drawing of ethical conclusions. This simplistic view is a misuse of basic arithmetic and a betrayal to science, political or otherwise. There are many counterexamples to your conjecture-or is it intellectual tribalism?

I registered as a voter in Kangemi when i visited Kenya early this year with a slight hope that i might return and vote. But it never happened on both elections.According to Mutua reasoning,i voted for muchawi Raila on 26/10/2017.Can he tell Kenyans who i voted for on the 8/8/2017 elections?

I have a question for Odinga and NASA Who continue to claim they won 8th of August poll and they have the figures . Why did they not ask for recount of votes instead of Invalidation of election
This would have prevented loss of lives , property and hatred. depending on which party we associate ourselves we deepen our hatred by insulting each other online via twitter and on feed backs. those we defend don't even know who we are . I would have thought those of us who live outside kenya have an advanced sense of reasoning. how unfortunate !

Good question Wambui Karago. I have been asking myself the same but I fault both parties - NASA & Jubilee. It's simply suspicious that neither aggressively pursued this route (manual recount)in order to forestall unnecessary political tension, time and money wastage (and now, lives) and make matters much much easier. Methinks both parties illegitimately tried to tamper with the election process and simply avoided doing the right thing to do.
